I am Lorrie Ilustre, a musician, musical director, and arranger. As one of the originators of Manila Sound and an early pioneer and pillar of OPM, I've passionately pursued a career in creating, sharing, and promoting Original Pilipino Music.
Over the years, I’ve been involved in various aspects of the music industry:
I've performed as a keyboard player, musical arranger, and musical director/conductor for a wide range of live shows, from intimate venues to grand stages.
In the studio, I've worked as a session musician, arranger, and producer, crafting original music for various artists and labels.
Composing and scoring for films has allowed me to explore artistic creativity and contribute to the emotional depth of storytelling.
Creating memorable jingles for multinational agencies has been a rewarding challenge, blending musical creativity with strategic messaging.
I commemorate five decades of work as a musician, arranger, and musical director, shaping my journey across live performances, studio recordings, film scoring, and advertising jingles.
Born in 1974, the Hotdog Band played a significant role in shaping the Filipino music scene. As an original member, I am proud to celebrate this milestone, marking 50 years since the band's inception and honoring its lasting impact on popular music.
Reflecting on the journey from the origins of Manila Sound to the growth and development of Original Pilipino Music (OPM), I feel blessed to have been a part of its birth and evolution. It’s inspiring to see how far OPM has come, and I’m eager to see what the future holds.
Ryan Cayabyab Award – Pinoy Playlist Music Festival 2025
At the 2025 Pinoy Playlist Music Festival, I received the Ryan Cayabyab Award, recognizing my contributions to Filipino music.
The award citation noted “your founding musical initiatives that gave birth to the Manila Sound… akin to a musical revolution that defined a movement to evolve the Filipino musical soul, and your masterful compositions and arrangements in pop music, film, as well as advertising.”
Reading those words brought me back to the early days of shaping a sound that would eventually grow into what we now proudly celebrate as OPM.
To have been part of the origins of the Manila Sound, and to witness its evolution and embrace across generations of Filipinos, has been one of the greatest privileges of my musical journey.
Lasallian Achievement Award – De La Salle Alumni Association (2025)
In 2025, I was named a recipient of the Lasallian Achievement Award by the De La Salle Alumni Association, recognizing alumni who have made significant contributions in their respective fields.
The recognition holds special meaning for me, as my journey began within the Lasallian community—from De La Salle College Grade School, to La Salle Green Hills, and later De La Salle University, where I earned my degree in Accounting.
The award acknowledges my work as a composer, arranger, producer, and performer, and my role in helping pioneer the Manila Sound and contributing to the growth of Original Pilipino Music (OPM). Being recognized by my own alma mater for a lifelong commitment to Filipino music makes this honor especially meaningful.
