KENNY RANKIN
Kenny Rankin was a beloved American singer, songwriter, and guitarist, known for his smooth tenor voice and jazz-infused style. Celebrated for his unique interpretations of popular standards and his original songs, Rankin's music blended jazz, pop, and folk to create a distinct, mellow sound that continues to resonate with listeners. With hits like "On and On," "What Matters Most," and "Haven't We Met," Rankin brought soulful warmth and fresh perspectives to every piece, captivating audiences with his vocal artistry and skillful guitar arrangements.
I first met Kenny in the 1970s when my band played as the front-act for his show at the FAT. Decades later, in 2000, I had the privilege of working with him as his Musical Director and arranger for two shows at the Araneta Coliseum. During our performance, I still remember him turning around to me repeatedly, saying, "It sounds like the record." He was thrilled; it was a special time, as he celebrated his 60th birthday.
