PATTI AUSTIN

Patti Austin is a renowned American singer, songwriter, and performer celebrated for her extraordinary vocal range and dynamic stage presence. A musical prodigy, she began performing at the tender age of four, mentored by legendary figures such as Quincy Jones and Dinah Washington. This early exposure to musical brilliance laid the foundation for her remarkable career.

Austin’s versatility as a vocalist is a defining hallmark of her career. Seamlessly blending genres like jazz, R&B, pop, and soul, she has earned critical acclaim and a devoted global fanbase. Her Grammy-winning tribute album, Avant Gershwin, exemplifies her artistry and status as a beloved interpreter of the Great American Songbook.

Throughout her illustrious journey, Austin has delivered iconic hits such as "Baby, Come to Me" (a duet with James Ingram) and "How Do You Keep the Music Playing?" Beyond her musical achievements, she passionately advocates music education and social causes. Patti Austin’s timeless voice and enduring impact continue to resonate with audiences, solidifying her place as an icon of American music.

I first had the honor of working with Patti Austin as her musical director and arranger during two iconic shows at the Araneta Coliseum, backed by a talented all-Filipino band. Years later, after relocating to the US, we reconnected. She graciously invited me to work with her once again, and since then, I’ve had the privilege of accompanying her to numerous concerts that featured her ‘pop’ tunes for Filipino audiences.

I’m continually humbled by the trust and respect she places in me, as well as the incredible musicians and backup vocalists I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside.

Patti’s generosity and kind heart know no bounds. When the Philippines was devastated by Typhoon Yolanda in 2013, friends approached me about organizing a fundraiser. I reached out to Patti, and without hesitation, she immediately agreed to join and even invited her friends Lea Salonga and Martin Nievera to participate. We quickly packed our bags and flew to the Philippines to stage a concert titled “Brand New Day” at Solaire in December 2013, raising much-needed funds for the typhoon victims.
